Mandatory Certification for Real Estate Agents

In January last year, MahaRERA mandated that all real estate agents undergo training and obtain certification to continue their practice. This move aimed to enhance the credibility and knowledge of agents, ensuring they are well-versed in the RERA Act's provisions and can provide accurate information to homebuyers.

Critical Knowledge Areas for Agents

Developer's credibility and project details RERA-compliant carpet area Validity of land titles and project approvals Commencement certificates and local authority approvals

Key documentation

Agreement for sale, allotment letter, defect liability period

This knowledge is crucial as real estate agents are often the first point of contact for homebuyers, providing essential information that influences purchasing decisions.

Impact of Non-Compliance

MahaRERA's stringent regulations led to the cancellation of registrations for 13,785 agents due to non-renewal and non-compliance with the new certification requirements. By the end of April this year, over 20,000 agents had their registrations suspended for failing to meet these mandatory standards by the December 31 deadline.
