A partnership has been established between ABB and Titagarh Rail Systems to provide propulsion systems for metro rolling stock initiatives in India. The collaboration has achieved preliminary triumphs through the acquisition of contracts to develop and provide metro coach apparatus for the state of Gujarat.

For Indian and international markets, Titagarh specialises in the design, manufacturing, supply, commissioning, and maintenance of diverse passenger rolling stock and metro coaches.

Titagarh has agreed to purchase ABB propulsion systems, including traction converters, auxiliary converters, traction motors, and TCMS software, under the terms of the partnership. Additionally, the agreement encompasses the procurement of production licences and manufacturing rights for traction motors, as well as the comprehensive technology transfer of the GoA 4 (driverless metro) TCMS software from ABB to Titagarh.

Edgar Keller, the president of ABB's Traction Business, stated the following:

"ABB is a globally recognised industry leader in the supply, design, manufacturing, and maintenance of traction propulsion systems and TCMS. "By means of our energy-efficient technology, which is entirely manufactured in India, this strategic partnership with Titagarh supports the endeavours to make rail transport in India sustainable and provides a solid foundation for us to enter and expand our presence in this pivotal market."

As stated by Umesh Chowdhary, VC and MD of Titagarh:

"By collaborating with ABB, Titagarh will be able to fully participate in the Make in India and Atmanirbhar Bharat initiatives of our government."

As a matter of fact manufacturing facilities have been established for a portion of the propulsion chain components, and efforts are underway to transform the system into a whole.

The procurement of propulsion apparatus and TCMS for metro carriages in Gujarat as part of the strategic partnership has already commenced.
