Apple Inc. has significantly expanded its presence in India with the opening of its latest office in Bengaluru, the country’s technology epicenter. This move demonstrates the U.S. company's growing commitment to India, the world's second-largest smartphone market, and its strategy to diversify its operations beyond China. The new office, encompassing 15 floors, is designed to accommodate up to 1,200 employees and includes dedicated lab spaces, collaborative areas, wellness centers, and the signature Caffe Macs.
Diverse Roles and Innovative WorkspaceApple's teams in Bengaluru will engage in a variety of functions spanning software, hardware, services, IS&T (Information Systems and Technology), operations, and customer support, among others. The company currently employs nearly 3,000 individuals across India. According to a company spokesperson, the new office in Bengaluru is expected to be a hub of innovation, creativity, and connection, reflecting Apple’s commitment to creating workspaces that foster collaboration and innovation.
Apple's Growing Indian Operations
This new office marks the latest addition to Apple’s expanding corporate presence across key Indian cities, including Mumbai, Hyderabad, and Gurugram. Apple has been actively increasing its retail and manufacturing presence in India, which is rapidly becoming a significant global production hub for the company, second only to China. In a major push to strengthen its market presence in India, Apple opened flagship stores in Mumbai and New Delhi last year, catering to the country's growing preference for premium devices, which currently represent 8-10% of the market as per IDC.
Record iPhone Shipments and Market Growth
Market analysts project that iPhone shipments in India will grow by 10-15% and reach record levels in 2024. This follows a robust performance in 2023, where iPhone shipments saw a 35% surge to 9 million units, fueled by attractive financing options and trade-in offers. In 2023, Apple became the largest smartphone maker globally, as reported by IDC, ending Samsung’s 13-year streak. Parallel to its market growth, Apple is increasingly collaborating with Indian suppliers, further deepening its integration into the Indian market.
