Maharashtra, India:

Maharashtra is currently leading the nation with the highest number of Indian Green Building Council (IGBC)-registered projects, followed closely by Uttar Pradesh and Gujarat. This growth is part of India’s larger commitment to sustainability, with over 7,000 IGBC-certified projects across the country, covering approximately 1,370 million square feet of built-up space.

Green Leases: Gaining Momentum

Research reveals that the concept of green leases is still in its early stages in India, but it is gaining momentum as sustainability awareness increases. The demand for environmentally responsible buildings is on the rise, especially from multinational corporations that have global sustainability targets to meet.

Real Estate Aligns with Climate Goals

As the real estate industry is a major source of greenhouse gas emissions, significant shifts are taking place to support India’s climate ambitions. Corporations are making efforts to ensure their properties and practices are aligned with both corporate sustainability goals and asset-level environmental initiatives.
