The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) has proposed a new regulation under the Development Control and Promotion Regulations (DCPR) 2034, specifically targeting the development and redevelopment of the Mahalaxmi Racecourse. The newly drafted Regulation 13(10) will apply solely to the Mahalaxmi Racecourse, excluding other clubs, gymkhanas, or reserved plots within the BMC’s jurisdiction.
Public Consultation Period Opens
The BMC has invited public objections and suggestions regarding this proposed modification to DCPR 2034. Residents and stakeholders have a one-month window to submit their feedback on the regulation, which is designed to govern the future development or redevelopment of the Mahalaxmi Racecourse, its club or gymkhana, the public park or theme park, and the racecourse stable area.
Detailed Land Allocation Plan
The notification outlines the specific allocation of land parcels within the racecourse:
- Plot A: A 29.4-acre area designated for a public park or theme park.
- Plot B: A 77-acre existing recreation ground, which will remain unchanged.
- Plot C: A 1.96-acre plot, currently without a designated amenity.
- Plot D: A 26.32-acre area allocated for horse stables.
- Plot E: A 34.12-acre plot encompassing the existing Mahalaxmi racetrack.
- Plot F: A 32.17-acre area including the existing Mahalaxmi Racecourse Club/Gymkhana.
Proposed Facilities for the Racecourse Club
The BMC has proposed a range of new facilities for the 32.17-acre club plot, including:
A departmental store Swimming pool Viewing deck and stands Clubhouse Gymnasium Indoor sports facilities such as squash and table tennis Outdoor sports amenities including cricket nets, football turf, box cricket, and pickleball
These additions aim to enhance the amenities available at the Mahalaxmi Racecourse, aligning with the broader vision of urban development outlined in DCPR 2034.
