NHDA Announces a New Year Gift For Nashik - A New Six Lane Highway

In an exciting development for Nashik residents, the National Highway Development Authority (NHDA) has announced a substantial investment to transform the travel experience between Mumbai and Nashik. A massive tender of Rs 1025 crore aims to widen and upgrade a significant portion of the Mumbai-Agra Highway.

This project includes a six-lane expansion of the stretch between Pimpalgaon Baswant and Gonde in Nashik district, as well as a six-lane concreting of the 20 km section between Gonde and Pimprisado, seamlessly connecting to the Samrudhi Mahamarga.

Significant Investment for Enhanced Connectivity

This project will see an investment of Rs 275 crore for the 60 km stretch from Pimpalgaon Baswant to Gonde. The construction of a six-lane highway in this section is expected to significantly increase traffic speed and reduce the Mumbai-Nashik travel time to just two hours, thanks to the connection to the Samridhi Highway.

Tackling Traffic and Pollution Challenges

Currently, the Mumbai-Agra National Highway experiences heavy traffic congestion, especially between Pimpalgaon in Niphad taluka and Gonde in Igatpuri taluka, with around 160 heavy vehicles passing per hour. This highway, which is the busiest between Mumbai and Dhule, has been plagued by traffic jams, air, and noise pollution, particularly affecting Nashik city. To address these challenges, the National Highway Authority is focusing on new highway constructions and expansions.

Highway Upgrade: A Leap Towards Better Roads

The 60 km stretch from Pimpalgaon to Gonde on the national highway will be upgraded to a six-lane road, with an investment of Rs 275 crores. This section will be surfaced with concrete instead of asphalt, ensuring durability and pothole-free travel during monsoons.

Reducing Travel Time Dramatically

Currently, the journey from Nashik to Mumbai, spanning approximately 200 km, takes about five hours. However, with the completion of the Samriddhi Highway up to Igatpuri Asangaon expected this year and the final phase in the near future, Nashik residents eagerly anticipate a significantly shortened travel time. The completion of the 20 km Gonde to Pimpris road will further reduce the travel time from Nashik to Mumbai to a mere one and a half hours. This six-lane concrete highway will cut down the travel time from Nashik to the Samriddhi Interchange to half an hour, and consequently, the Nashik to Mumbai journey to two hours.
