As per news sources, the Municipal Corporation of Greater Mumbai (MCGM) has reportedly issued a stop-work notice to Glider Buildcon Realtors, a subsidiary of Piramal Realty. The notice halts the construction of a high-rise residential tower near the Rani Baug Zoo in Byculla, South Mumbai.
This action was allegedly prompted by a complaint from an environmental activist regarding a missing No Objection Certificate (NOC) from the Zoo Authority and other potential violations.
Clarification from Piramal Realty
Piramal Realty clarified that the issue affects only a small portion of the project. The company stated that the stop-work notice concerns a minor part of the construction, and necessary steps are being taken to regularize the situation as per MCGM’s policies.
Project Details
Piramal Aranya Piramal Aranya, the project in question, is situated on a 7-acre land parcel offering views of the 60-acre botanical garden and the Arabian Sea. Glider Buildcon had initially acquired this prime land from Mafatlal Industries for ₹605 crore in 2011.
The environmental complaint highlighted that Glider Buildcon had been granted environmental clearance, provided that they secure NOCs from both the Zoo Authority and the Central Ground Water Authority.
Compliance and Progress According to the company's statement, all required premiums have been paid, and Transfer of Development Rights (TDR) has been purchased and utilized for the project. Piramal Realty has secured environmental clearances and the necessary NOC from the Zoo Authority. The company emphasized that construction is proceeding in full compliance with directives from the authorities.
