In a significant push to ease traffic on Ghodbunder Road, a notorious bottleneck for motorists traveling from Mumbai, Thane, and beyond toward Nashik, Gujarat, and Konkan, the Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority (MMRDA) has accelerated the development of alternative routes.

Five ring roads are being built as part of a megacity inter-linking project to improve traffic flow and connectivity. The proposed Orange Gate tunnel will link the Freeway and Coastal Road at Marine Drive on the southernmost ring road. Mumbai will connect to Thane, Palghar, and Alibaug.

Thare's Haware Citi, a peaceful community on Ghodbunder Road with 28 buildings and 7,000 residents, is protesting two ready-mix cement (RMC) facilities. MMRDA-approved, this development has raised neighbourhood health and environmental concerns.

Environmental organisations say a 600-meter bund near DPS Flamingo Lake violates Coastal Regulation Zone (CRZ) standards and a Bombay High Court ruling. The local NGO NatConnect Foundation complained to the chief minister and the High Court-appointed mangrove preservation and conservation committee.
