BMC Sets Record with INR 5847 Crore Property Tax Collection in 9 Months

The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) collected ₹5,847.68 crore in property tax between April and December 2024, setting a record. A significant ₹433.87 crore was collected over two days, with ₹173.59 crore on December 30 and ₹260.28 crore on December 31, 2024.

Yearly Targets and Achievements

For the financial year 2024-25, BMC set a property tax collection target of ₹6,200 crore. As of now, 68% of the target (₹4,187.19 crore) has been achieved. In comparison, BMC collected ₹1,660 crore in the entire 2023-24 financial year.

December Breakthrough

December alone saw a collection of ₹2,501.07 crore, the highest monthly figure for the year. Extended working hours and awareness campaigns played a crucial role in this achievement.

Western Suburbs Lead in Contributions

The western suburbs contributed the highest, accounting for ₹2,979.45 crore of the total collection.

  • Eastern suburbs: ₹1,091.10 crore
  • The city: ₹1,774.43 crore

Offices remained open for 14 hours on December 30 (8 AM to 10 PM) and until midnight on December 31 to accommodate last-minute payments.

Awareness campaigns led by senior BMC officials encouraged timely payments.

Extended hours at ward offices and citizen centers maximized collections.
