Bengaluru:

Google has secured a lease for 649,000 sq ft of office space at Alembic City in Whitefield, Bengaluru. The monthly rental is set at ₹62 per sq ft with a three-year lock-in period, according to sources familiar with the deal. This strategic move aligns with Google’s proactive approach to acquiring both traditional and flexible office spaces across major Indian cities to bolster its presence.

Expansion Strategy Across India

In 2022, Google Connect Services India, a subsidiary of the US tech giant, renewed its rental agreement for approximately 600,000 sq ft of office space in Hyderabad. Additionally, Google entered into an agreement with Bagmane Developers to lease 1.3 million sq ft of office space in Bangalore. Since 2020, Google's office space portfolio in India has grown by 3.5 million sq ft. Currently, Google maintains a presence in five Indian cities, spanning over 9.3 million sq ft of real estate.

Significant Investments in India

Google has earmarked substantial investments for the Indian market. Plans include manufacturing smartphones at a Foxconn facility in Tamil Nadu and initiating independent drone manufacturing in the state. The production of Pixel smartphones in India is set to begin with the Pixel 8 model. Reports also indicate that Google is relocating some roles to India, recognizing it as a rapidly growing market.

Commitment to the Indian Market

Google emphasized its commitment to the Indian market, particularly for Pixel smartphones, stating in a recent blog post that India is a priority market. The company aims to deliver the best of its hardware and built-in software capabilities to users across the country.

Office Market Trends

India's office market is expected to witness robust absorption this year as major IT firms resume offline operations post-pandemic. Large enterprise clients anticipate a significant increase in demand for flexible workspaces in the coming year.
