The state government of Jammu and Kashmir has set a goal of completing one lakh developmental works and constructing 54,000 dwellings under the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana-Gramin (PMAY-G) during the fiscal year 2022-23, an official spokesperson said.

Additionally, it plans to link all gram panchayats to the internet and build or renovate 700 panchayat ghars throughout the Union territory during the current fiscal year, he added.

According to the spokesperson, the rural sector has been allocated about Rs 4,627.85 crore under capital expenditure for 2022-23, which is an increase of Rs 327.40 crore over the previous year's budget allocation.

The MGNREGA aims to produce 426 lakh person days between 2022 and 2023, while also proposing to issue 60,000 job cards depending on demand, the official added.

He said that one lakh developmental projects of all kind would be undertaken.

The Rashtriya Gram Swaraj Abhiyan would give exposure visits to 1,500 elected lawmakers outside Jammu and Kashmir, the official added.

"Internet access will be supplied to all gramme panchayats, and a total of 700 panchayat ghars — 400 new and 300 old — will be constructed or renovated," he stated.

According to the spokesperson, 54,000 dwellings would be built under the PMAY–G, while 87,250 individual family latrines and 2,500 community sanitary complexes will be created under the Swachh Bharat Mission–Gramin between 2022–23.

He said that 21,194 self-help groups would be created between 2022 and 2023 as part of the National Rural Livelihood Mission.

He said that under Himayat (Deen Dyal Upadhyaya-Gramin Kaushalya Yojana), 14,067 youngsters would get skill training and 9,847 will be placed in jobs between 2022 and 2023.

A provision of Rs 176.32 crore has been made for the building of residential and office space for members of the district development council, block development council, and panchayati raj institutions, according to the spokesperson.

He said that a capital expenditure allocation of around Rs 5,217.87 crore has been approved for the road and bridge sector for the fiscal year 2022-23.

The upgrade of 1,750 kilometres of road is scheduled to begin in 2022-23, the official said, adding that 50 bridges would be constructed under central or union territory sector programmes.

He said that an overall goal of 6,000 kilometres of black-topped roads is envisaged under the Pradhan Mantri Gram Sadak Yojana (PMGSY), cities and towns, the Central Road and Infrastructure Fund, the National Bank for Agriculture and Rural Development (NABARD), and Pothole Free Roads.

What exactly is PMAY-G?

The Pradhan Mantri Awaas Yojana – Gramin (PMAY-G) was launched to bolster the "Housing for All" initiative. The national government established the goal of completing the 'Housing for All' project by 2022.

The PMAY-G scheme's primary objective is to offer certain basic utilities to pucca houses.
This programme is for persons who do not own a home and those who live in kutcha houses or seriously damaged homes. The minimum size of residences to be developed under the PMAY-G programme has been raised from 20 to 25 square metres.
