Stringent Background Checks for Land purchasers in Uttarakhand

The Uttarakhand government has decided to enact a law with stringent land purchase requirements.

The action is in response to chief minister Pushkar Singh Dhami's recent concerns regarding the construction of religious structures on state-owned land, particularly in forest areas.

According to officials, the law will seek to prevent 'people with dubious backgrounds' from purchasing land in Uttarakhand. Officials added that the state will make the necessary adjustments to existing land-related laws and introduce an ordinance regarding the matter.

During a recent cabinet meeting, the CM instructed officials to devise a method to prevent the return of trespassers once they have been removed from government property. The chief executive stated, "We cannot permit a person with malicious intent to purchase land in our state."

State officials have also been tasked with compiling and updating information regarding property owned by various government agencies. Chief secretary SS Sandhu stated,

"Department heads will assign an officer to a particular area to ensure that no encroachment complaints are filed in that area."

According to sources, the new regulations that the government plans to implement will have no effect on the quantity of land purchased by an outsider. They asserted that the modifications would be implemented "to prevent only shady characters from purchasing property in the Himalayan state."

It remains to be seen the overall impact of this move on the Uttarakhand real estate market.
