Mumbai, India:
In a landmark decision, Abhishek Lodha and his family, promoters of Macrotech Developers—one of India’s real estate giants—have pledged over $2.5 billion (₹20,000 crore) to philanthropy. The family plans to transfer a significant stake of their holdings in Macrotech, creating an initial corpus of approximately ₹20,000 crore for the Lodha Philanthropy Foundation (LPF).
This strategic move positions LPF as a major stakeholder in the company, which holds a market valuation of over ₹1.1 lakh crore.
This philanthropic pledge stands among the largest by any Indian business family, aligning with contributions by foundations like those of Azim Premji and Shiv Nadar. Lodha attributes his inspiration to the Tata family, who set a precedent nearly a century ago by dedicating a substantial part of their shareholding to charitable trusts—a legacy that continues to impact India profoundly.
With the endorsement of his parents, Mangal Prabhat Lodha and Manju Lodha, alongside the support of his wife, Vinti Lodha, and their children, Abhishek Lodha confirmed that LPF will hold about one-fifth of Macrotech Developers. As the company grows, LPF’s resources will expand, fueling its mission to support pressing national causes.
Dedicated exclusively to social upliftment, LPF’s philanthropic agenda includes four key areas: women’s empowerment, child welfare, environmental sustainability, and the preservation of Indian culture. The foundation has been building a strong leadership team and working on meaningful projects to support India’s progress towards the 2047 vision of a developed nation.
