Bhiwandi is undoubtedly one of the biggest warehousing hubs in India with some of the biggest companies having their warehousing facilities in Bhiwandi.

Mahindra Logistics has recently inaugurated a state-of-the-art, Grade-A warehouse in Bhiwandi, near Mumbai, spanning a massive 6.5 lakh square feet. This facility is equipped with 84 docks, a 13-meter clear height, and boasts a load-bearing capacity of 8 MT/M2.

It is designed to offer flexible, scalable fulfillment, and integrated distribution solutions, making it a crucial component in Mahindra Logistics' pan-India network of multi-client facilities.

Strategic Location and Sectoral Impact:

Bhiwandi, located on the outskirts of Mumbai, is rapidly emerging as a prime warehousing location in the region, hosting companies like Amazon, Samsung, BMW, and Flipkart. The strategic location of this new facility near prominent industrial and manufacturing clusters like Nashik and Vapi and its proximity to India’s largest port and International Airport of Mumbai, positions it to play a pivotal role in the supply chain, facilitating efficient logistics operations and faster movement of goods. This is likely to attract more companies to set up their logistics and warehousing operations in the area, boosting the local economy and real estate sector.

Sustainability and Certification:

The facility adheres to Mahindra Logistics' sustainability standards, incorporating liquid discharge management, 100% on-site renewable energy, and waste management protocols. It also provides a substantial 30% green cover and is IGBC platinum certified, reflecting a commitment to environmental conservation and sustainable development.

Diverse Clientele and Services:

The warehouse is versatile and suitable for a wide range of applications, supporting Mahindra Logistics’ 3PL, Last-mile delivery, and Express businesses. It will manage the fulfillment and distribution for diverse clients in automotive, e-commerce, and FMCG industries, broadening Mahindra Logistics' portfolio of integrated solutions.

Growth and Development in Bhiwandi:

Bhiwandi has witnessed significant growth in warehousing in the last five years, becoming a hub for multinational companies and construction material dealers. The availability of ample space, skilled manpower, good connectivity, and transportation and logistics services make it a preferred choice for logistics and warehousing. The development in the region is regulated by MMRDA, ensuring excellent connectivity and infrastructure development, making it a cost-effective location for companies.

Economic Implications:

The development of such large-scale warehousing facilities is indicative of the growing demand in the logistics and warehousing sector, driven by the e-commerce boom and the need for efficient supply chain solutions. This is likely to spur further investments in the sector, creating employment opportunities and contributing to economic growth.

Vision and Future Prospects:

Rampraveen Swaminathan, MD, and CEO of Mahindra Logistics, emphasized that the new facility aligns with the company's vision to achieve carbon neutrality by 2040 and is a testament to their pursuit of sustainability, as evidenced by the IGBC certification.

Conclusion:

The establishment of Mahindra Logistics' new warehouse in Bhiwandi is a strategic move, leveraging the location's growing prominence as a warehousing hub. It underscores the increasing importance of sustainable, large-scale warehousing solutions in enhancing supply chain efficiency, catering to diverse industries, and fostering economic development in the region.
