Slum Redevelopment Project Gets Approval

The redevelopment of Nargis Dutt Nagar, a prominent slum settlement in Bandra, has received the green light under Maharashtra’s Slum Redevelopment Authority (SRA). The project will replace existing shacks with three- and four-bedroom sea-facing flats, transforming the 2-acre Bandra Reclamation land into a modern residential hub.

Eligibility and Benefits

Out of 1,515 tenants residing in the area, 851 are confirmed eligible for housing under the redevelopment scheme. Developers are reviewing applications to determine the eligibility of the remaining tenants. The project will allocate 5.4 lakh square feet to house eligible slum dwellers, while 10 lakh square feet of premium salable flats will be available to the public. The government and developers are expected to generate a combined ₹10,000 crore from the project.

Infrastructure and Community Development

In addition to residential flats, the redevelopment plan includes key infrastructure upgrades. The DP Road near the site will be constructed by the developers and handed over to authorities, easing access for residents. Amenities such as kindergartens, libraries, society offices, community halls, welfare centers, and religious structures are also part of the proposal, in line with SRA guidelines.

A Long-Awaited Transformation

The redevelopment plan, originally proposed in 2019, faced delays due to political opposition and land encroachment issues. Revived in mid-2022, the project recently secured final approval from the authorities. Once completed, this initiative will not only uplift the living conditions of slum dwellers but also redefine Bandra’s real estate landscape with its high-end offerings.
