Police NOC will no longer be required to rent homes in Mumbai.
Applicants may notify police through the Internet, in person at the police station, or by mail.
To authenticate applications, the police will send a one-time password to the owners' phone numbers.
A few days after becoming the first special commissioner of the Mumbai police, Deven Bharti issued an order revising the policies governing the information that renters must supply to the police. According to sources, the decision was made to avoid crimes and guarantee that the police had current information on local residents.
According to the ruling, the police no-objection certificate (NOC) is not necessary for apartment and home rentals. The police will issue a barcode that renters may use to access information on the Mumbai police website.
According to the order announced on 13 January 2023, residents may now inform the Mumbai police about their home rent online, at a police station, or via registered letter. To authenticate the applications, the police will also issue a one-time password (OTP) to the owners' contact number.
The standards also stipulate that the home owner's address and the address of the rented property cannot be the same, and that both the landlord and the tenant are responsible for providing accurate information.
If the police are provided false information, legal action may be taken. As per a Police Officer, the Mumbai police used to make appeals to the public for information regarding renting out property in an effort to prevent crime and ensure that they had the names and addresses of every individual who rented a home in Mumbai. The regulations will be vigorously enforced," a police officer added.
