Recently Prime Minister Narendra Modi lay the foundation stones for development projects worth over Rs 22,000 crore at Gujarat's Dahod dome, Asia's biggest.
PM Modi stated that Dahod city in Gujarat will be a major Make in India hub, and the government's initiative to boost domestic manufacturing will gain momentum with the workshop established here in the pre-Independence era for the overhaul of steam locomotives that is being upgraded to produce electric locomotives.
He said during a presentation at the inauguration of development projects in Dahod that demand for electric locomotives is increasing internationally.
"Dahod will contribute significantly to addressing this need," he said.
According to the Prime Minister, India is one of the few nations that produces locomotives with 9,000 horsepower.
The Prime Minister lay the foundation stone for the construction of 9000 horsepower electric locomotives at the Dahod plant. The project will cost around Rs. 20,000 crore. The Dahod workshop, constructed in 1926 for the periodic refurbishment of steam locomotives, will be expanded to a production facility for electric locomotives via infrastructure upgrades.
"Dahod is now poised to become a major manufacturing hub in India. The steam locomotive workshop established before to independence will now serve as a catalyst for Make In India. In Dahod, a plant worth Rs 20,000 crore would be established,"he added. The Prime Minister said that the federal and state governments were collaborating to address tribal community concerns.
Additionally, the Prime Minister revealed development initiatives associated with Panchmahal. Bhupendra Patel, the state's chief minister, was also in attendance.
