Maharashtra Property Registration on Weekends Possible Now
The Maharashtra state property registration department has decided to keep its 27 offices, including five in Pune and one in Mumbai, open on Saturdays and Sundays, allowing citizens to register property documents on weekends.
Previously, only five of the state's 516 property registration offices were open on the weekends.
Recently, state IGR HH Sonawane stated that revenue minister Radhakrishna Vikhe Patil authorised the department's proposal in this regard recently.
Five of the 27 registration offices permitted to operate on weekends are located in Pune, one each in Mumbai, Thane, Nashik, and Nagpur.
In light of the fact that many purchasers prefer to register their documents on weekends as opposed to weekdays due to work obligations, this demand was initially voiced by the developers.
Two offices in Pimpri Chinchwad municipal limits, two offices in Kothrud, and one office near the Pune Collectorate will be accessible on weekends in Pune.
Employees at these 27 registration offices will receive time off during the week to compensate for the additional work as per Mr. Sonwane.
As per President of CREDAI Pune-metro Ranjit Naiknavare, the real estate developers' organisation has been requesting this particular move for some time.
He also said that the number of people visiting the registration offices had increased, and this initiative would help citizens register their documents at their convenience.
Many citizens in Maharashtra have expressed their delight on this move and have opined that the weekend property registrations would benefit everyone.
In April 2023, the first month of the current fiscal year, the state recorded over two million property registrations, generating Rs 2,876.39 crore in revenue. In April of last year, the department earned Rs 1,800 billion from property registrations. The state IGR stated that the lack of an increase in ready reckoner rates was the primary cause for the constant registrations.
