Virar-Alibaug corridor and Pune Ring Road
The Maharashtra State Road Development Corporation (MSRDC) has won the proposal for the Virar-Alibaug multimodal corridor (VAMMC) in Mumbai, which is a significant development for transit connectivity in the Mumbai Metropolitan Region (MMR).
The Rs 60,000 crore project will encompass a nearly 100-kilometer eight-lane motorway with provisions for future Metro rail connectivity. In the bidding procedure for the corridor, as well as the Pune Ring Road and the Samruddhi Motorway Extension, 28 infrastructure corporations, including L&T and Afcons, participated.
Vasai, Bhiwandi, Kalyan, Ambernath, Panvel, Uran, and Pen will be traversed by the VAMMC. It will primarily serve as a connection between the under-construction Navi Mumbai International Airport, the JNPT Port, the Mumbai Trans Harbour Link (MTHL), and a goods corridor. The project is anticipated to reduce travel time between Virar and Alibaug by fifty percent, and because it will pass through the Mumbai- Satara Highway, it will serve as a short-cut between various areas in the Mumbai Metropolitan Region (MMR) and Goa. Pune's Ring Road will be a 137-kilometer access-controlled motorway.
The Rs 34,000 crore project will not only bring Mumbai closer to the interior parts of Pune-drivers will be able to use the ring road to reach their destinations rather than getting stuck in traffic in the middle of the city-but it will also provide connectivity to the talukas of Khed, Haveli, Purandar, Bhor, Mulshi, and Maval. In Kakandi, the Samruddhi Extension will begin at the 500-kilometer mark near Jalna and connect to the Nanded-Degloor National Highway. Additionally, it will intersect with the proposed motorway traversing Jalna-Parbhani and Nanded. The estimated cost of the endeavour is 22,000 crore rupees.
