Massive Investment in Odisha Vedanta has announced a major investment of ₹1 lakh crore in Odisha, aimed at establishing a 6 million tonne alumina refinery and a 3 million tonne aluminium plant. This investment, though without a specified timeline, is expected to significantly boost the state's industrial sector and create employment opportunities.
Vedanta’s Continued Commitment to Odisha
Over the past two decades, Vedanta has already invested ₹1 lakh crore in Odisha, making it the largest aluminium producer in India. The company currently operates a 3.5-million-tonne alumina refinery at Lanjigarh and a 1.8-million-tonne smelter at Jharsuguda.
Rich Bauxite Reserves Fuel Expansion
Vedanta's expansion in Odisha is supported by its recent acquisition of the Sijimali bauxite mines, which hold an estimated 400 million tonnes of reserves. Odisha is home to the largest bauxite reserves in India, making it a key location for Vedanta’s operations.
Job Creation and Industrialization
The proposed investment is set to create 2 lakh jobs in Odisha, furthering the state's development. Anil Agarwal, Vedanta’s chairman, emphasized the company’s dedication to Odisha’s inclusive growth and industrialization in a recent statement.
