Significant achievements were reported during the Urban Infrastructure session at the Biswabanga Mela Prangan of Bengal Global Business Summit, 2023, which examined opportunities to increase trade and investment in West Bengal, as well as the states of Maharashtra, Karnataka, Tamil Nadu, and Delhi.

The World Trade Centre NDITA has entered into memorandums of understanding with the World Trade Centres of Kochi, Noida, Mumbai, and Bengaluru.

Pertaining to information, Merlin Group is constructing the inaugural World Trade Centre (WTC) development in Salt Lake, West Bengal.

MoUs were signed and exchanged in the presence of Firhad Hakim, Cabinet Minister of Urban Development and Municipal Affairs and Housing, government of West Bengal, and among the following individuals: Sushil Mohta, chairman of WTC NDITA and president of Credai West Bengal; Vineet Verma, MD, WTC Bengaluru, Chennai, and Kochi; Vijay Kalantri, chairman of WTC Mumbai; and Amrit Lal Batwal, senior manager, trade & allied services, World Trade Centre India, which represents thirteen centres in the north west region.

Sushil Mohta mentioned:

“We will develop a WTC in Nabadiganta, Salt Lake – a 4 million square foot facility that will offer offices, retail, hotel and WTC facilities that would have exhibition, conference hall and relevant facilities. The count of WTCs in 90 countries is in excess of 300.”

Vijay Kalantri added:

“The MoU will surely assist in the goal of BGBS (Bengal slogan is Bengal means business).”

In early 2023, the World Trade Centre Association (WTCA) and Merlin Group collaborated on the development of a WTC. Scott Wang, vice president, WTCA, Asia Pacific region; Sushil Mohta, and Saket Mohta, MD, both of Merlin Group, executed the licence agreement.

Turner has been engaged to provide project management consulting services. The WTC at Salt Lake will require an investment of approximately Rs 1500 cr and generate 30,000 employment.
