Zomato has taken a significant leap in its operational capabilities by securing a 3.08 lakh sq ft warehousing space at Sumadhura Logistics Park near Bengaluru, marking the company's largest warehousing transaction in India. This strategic move, facilitated by the Bengaluru-based Sumadhura Group, spans a solid seven-year agreement, showcasing Zomato's commitment to enhancing its logistic efficiencies.
Strategic Expansion in the Logistics Arena
Developed by the esteemed Sumadhura Group, this built-to-suit warehousing park represents a pivotal development in the logistics sector. Madhusudhan G, the Group's CMD, highlighted the partnership as a testament to their expanding portfolio in the logistics and warehousing domain, emphasizing the strategic importance of Bengaluru, especially its eastern region, as a burgeoning hub for warehousing solutions.
Investing in the Future of Logistics
With an initial investment of Rs 600 crore, the first phase of Sumadhura Logistics Park sprawls over 100 acres, providing 2.5 million sq ft of commercial warehouse space. This ambitious project is set to expand, aiming to reach a total of 6 million sq ft of warehouse space in its forthcoming phase, signifying a major boost in the warehousing capacity within the region.
Warehousing Demand on the Rise
The demand for warehousing in India has seen a significant surge, particularly driven by the retail sector, which has grown from 8 percent in 2019 to 13 percent in 2022 of the warehousing market share. A recent CBRE report underscores this trend, noting that the combined demand from e-commerce, FMCG, and retail sectors contributed to nearly 27 percent of the total warehousing demand from 2019 to the first half of 2023.
